We assume there is <strong>air<\/strong> when we breathe and <strong>ground<\/strong> when we step forward. Sometimes the air is <strong>toxic<\/strong>, sometimes the ground is a <strong>pit<\/strong>. But we cannot live in <strong>constant doubt<\/strong> either. A life where we neither breathe nor take a step would not be called living. However, if we refuse to question when we must, we would be <strong>consciously breathing poison or willingly jumping into a pit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For instance, <strong>the universe, God, justice, and our conceptions of God<\/strong>\u2014we do not question these at all. We even doubt <strong>air and the ground<\/strong>, but we do not question <strong>these fundamental ideas that shape our lives<\/strong>. Many of us waste away chasing <strong>false concepts<\/strong> without even realizing it.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\"  src=\"data:image\/gif,GIF89a%01%00%01%00%80%00%00%00%00%00%FF%FF%FF%21%F9%04%01%00%00%00%00%2C%00%00%00%00%01%00%01%00%00%02%01D%00%3B\" data-layzr=\"https:\/\/www.dmy.info\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2025\/03\/image-6.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1126\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Fairy Tales and Childhood<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>How can we be so easily deceived by the <strong>fairy tales<\/strong> of today when we were raised with <strong>stories as children<\/strong>? Because <strong>most people never grow out of childhood<\/strong>. Since a society <strong>without children is impossible<\/strong>, we can <strong>tolerate a certain level of fairy tales<\/strong>. Often, we let those <strong>who never grow up<\/strong> continue with their <strong>childlike rhetoric<\/strong> just to avoid <strong>offending them<\/strong>. However, <strong>trusting their decisions, granting them power, or allowing them to influence society is a mistake<\/strong>. This is why people who <strong>lack conceptual analysis skills should not lead institutions<\/strong>\u2014they may <strong>harm themselves and others<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>We Cannot Escape Pretending to Know<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Intuitively, the <strong>Earth seems flat<\/strong>, yet from space, it is <strong>round<\/strong>. At <strong>light speed<\/strong>, it also appears <strong>flat<\/strong>. We draw <strong>straight lines<\/strong>, but because the Earth is round, <strong>true straight lines do not exist<\/strong>. We create <strong>square objects<\/strong>, yet there are <strong>no perfect squares in nature<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We only see <strong>visible light<\/strong>, but <strong>infrared and ultraviolet exist<\/strong>. Snakes perceive <strong>heat<\/strong>, bats perceive <strong>sound<\/strong>. <strong>There are not just five senses\u2014there are 32, including pressure and temperature<\/strong>. But we can <strong>summarize them all as touch<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A table is <strong>not a table in itself<\/strong>\u2014it consists of <strong>various elements<\/strong>, but even elements are <strong>just our interpretation<\/strong>. A <strong>car<\/strong> is not a single object but a <strong>collection of multiple components<\/strong>. To someone washing carpets, <strong>light, electricity, and gravity<\/strong> are familiar concepts. But <strong>philosophers<\/strong> do not necessarily \u201cknow\u201d them in the same way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of what we <strong>think we know<\/strong>, we only <strong>pretend to know<\/strong>. The best we can do is to <strong>admit we do not know the fairy tale we are telling ourselves<\/strong>. However, it is also <strong>impossible to live without pretending to know<\/strong>\u2014without <strong>speaking, reducing, and simplifying<\/strong>. We seem destined for a <strong>wavering life between knowing and not knowing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Philosophy and the Discipline of Thought<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked whether studying philosophy is <strong>useful or useless<\/strong>, we instinctively respond <strong>\u201cyes\u201d or \u201cno\u201d<\/strong> because that is what the other party expects. But there is <strong>no such simple answer<\/strong>. Philosophy is <strong>necessary<\/strong> as a discipline precisely because <strong>it reminds us that such simple answers do not exist<\/strong>. It is a constant <strong>warning in our minds that there are things we cannot know<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>No One Knows the Story\u2014Everyone Just Pretends to Know<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Who truly knows which fairy tale? The <strong>words, events, and heroes<\/strong> of the story you <strong>just invented<\/strong> come from <strong>the endless depths of history<\/strong>. A person <strong>does not even know their own invention<\/strong>, let alone what they <strong>see with their own eyes<\/strong>. A <strong>finger<\/strong> can appear <strong>bigger than a mountain<\/strong>, and we often <strong>mishear the person next to us<\/strong>. Our <strong>minds<\/strong> are so fragile that they <strong>struggle to distinguish dreams from reality<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In such a <strong>confusing world<\/strong>, it becomes inevitable to <strong>engage in the conceptual analyses and debates<\/strong> that philosophy has long practiced.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Knowing and Doubt We do not know, yet we must live as if we do.
